How do your products represent social groups or issues?

My product represents young people and young love. Our piece shows the story of two young people who fall in love and begin a long-distance relationship. In our piece, the audience may find comfort in the portrayal of the struggles of long-distance relationships. Our music video also includes scenes in London and can represent the people who live/the people who have longed to go and visit London for its many wonders.

Our product also represents the issues that come along with a long-distance relationship. Long-distance relationships are frowned upon, this, therefore, goes against this and shows to the audience that long-distance relationships are okay, and that love is OK no matter how and where it takes place. My piece also represents the struggle with language barriers.

There is a tiny percentage of people who commits to a partner who doesn’t speak the same language as them. Our piece has hopefully opened the eyes of the audience, showing them that love is everywhere, no matter the date, time or location.

This creates a significant impact on the audience as my piece is a lot more emotional and heartfelt than it may seem, leaving room for the audience to decode our piece.

How do the elements of your production work together to create a sense of ‘branding’?

One element of my production that has created a sense of branding has to be the Visual Identity. The narrator, Oscar, throughout the piece wore 2Step Merchandise. This brings awareness of the brand to the audience through the music video. It also gives the audience the desire to purchase the merchandise, therefore, creating a fanbase as well as a strong sense of branding.

Another element of my product that has created a sense of branding is the storyline and the story that was being told. My music video told a story, a story of two people getting into a long-distance relationship and falling in love. This is a strong storyline that will reinforce the artist's brand image.

Another sense of branding would be the social media pages my group created for the artist and for the product. The social media pages promoted the music video as well as merchandise, as mentioned before, and social media pages would reach a larger audience, therefore making more people aware of 2step which would overall impact the strength of the brand.

My music video has a distinct style throughout, therefore causing a familiar and constant look and feel. This, therefore, means that in the future, if 2step were to create another music video, the audiences would associate the music video with the previous videos, therefore, showing the strong branding we have created.

How do your products engage with the audience?

My product engages with audiences greatly. The main audience my product engages with is the younger generation. My product shows and demonstrates the effect a long-distance relationship has and demonstrates that long-distance relationships shouldn’t be frowned upon and should be admired.

Our piece engages audiences with its deep, personal storyline and really demonstrates real-life love which is hard to demonstrate through the media.

Another reason this may be the case is since the music is upbeat and has a fast tempo, the younger generation might be attracted as the song may be the kind of song played at parties or social gatherings, this therefore also means that the style of the song may generate an increased fanbase.

Throughout the music video, the audience is shown bright colours and smiles, and the overall theme of the music video is a happy theme. This, therefore, means that the product would engage with the audience in a very happy, upbeat way, rising the mood of the audience, therefore meaning that the song would be listened to regularly by people and the music video would be engaged massively as it will increase the mood of the viewer.

My product also engages with the older audience and may bring back nostalgic memories to adults and parents who may have been in long-distance relationships themselves or may have just grown up in London.

To conclude this paragraph, my product clearly successfully engaged the target audience.

How did your research inform your products and the way they use or challenge conventions?

My research informed me on multiple different things throughout the process of creating and executing my music video.

Secondary research was used to go into depth on different artists and how they successfully created a brand image for themselves, as well as creating merchandise and a successful fanbase. Throughout my research, I found codes and conventions which helped me direct actors and create the most successful piece I could have created.

I carefully watched music videos from other producers and artists of the same genre, EDM, and I analysed and realised similarities throughout.

Some similarity I found while researching EDM was the visual effects. EDM music videos usually use effects such as bright lighting, fast cuts and fast lighting. This information informed my product and altered my decision-making process when filming my video,

Another similarity I found while researching EDM was the unique creative side of these music videos. Different EDM music videos contain very different, unique things such as surrealism, science fiction or animation. Although I did not use any of these in my music video, this research challenged conventions.

Finally, EDM music is commonly linked with clubs and festivals, especially in their music videos. This was another convention which was challenged as I still tried to stick with the EDM genre and theme throughout the process.

To conclude this paragraph, my research helped massively in creating a successful piece.
